Eric Lloyd Sellars

Eric Lloyd Sellars (born August 8, 1983) is an attorney currently serving as Associate General Counsel, Director, Intellectual Property at Cloudflare. He resides in Austin, Texas.

Early Life and Education

Eric was born on August 8, 1983, in Dallas, Texas, to Keith Sellars and Donna Sellars. He grew up in Garland, Texas and graduated from North Mesquite High School in 2001.

During high school, he was a member of the North Mesquite High School Golf Team. During this period, his parents joined the Dallas Athletic Club, where Eric played frequently throughout his youth.

Following high school, he attended Texas Christian University (TCU) for one year (2001–2002) before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin. At UT, he earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science. He later attended the University of Houston for Law School.

Marriage and Family

Eric met Erin Sellars at Fado's Irish Pub on 4th Street in Austin, Texas following his graduation from the University of Texas. Their meeting occurred when two groups of friends socialized together at the pub.

The couple married on January 9, 2009 during the winter break between the first and second semesters of his first year of Law School.

Following the birth of their second child in 2017, the family relocated from San Jose, California to Austin, Texas, settling in the Westlake neighborhood at 1308 Shannon Oaks Trail.

They have two children:

• Baker Sellars (born October 10, 2014)
• Maxyn Sellars (born July 11, 2017)

Career

Eric's professional career is centered on Intellectual Property Law.

Cloudflare

Eric joined Cloudflare where he currently serves as Associate General Counsel, Director, Intellectual Property. In this role, he manages the company's:

• Patents and Trademarks
• Open Source compliance efforts
• General intellectual property matters

Previous Experience

While in law school, he spent two summers in San Jose, California:

• First summer: Interned at the IBM Almaden Research Lab.
• Second summer: Interned at Hickman Palermo Truong and Becker (HPTB).

Following law school, he joined Hickman Palermo Truong and Becker as an attorney at their 1 Almaden office in downtown San Jose, California. He later joined the firm Wong & Rees in Santa Clara, California. Before moving back to Texas, he worked at Nicholson De Vos Webster & Elliott (99 Almaden).

Social History

During his years at the University of Texas at Austin, Eric lived with friends Brian Beal, Ryan George, Joe SanDone, and Brett Appolito.

In California, Eric and Erin Sellars were frequent visitors to the San Jose Swim and Racquet Club. Currently, the Sellars family are active members of the Westlake Country Club in Austin, Texas, where they primarily play tennis and golf.
